I don’t really believe in making New Year’s resolutions. Why put yourself under such pressure? You can’t just change your life from one day to the next! Much of the buzz around New Year’s resolutions is created by the media, and by businesses who see an opportunity to make some money out of you.
Sadly, many people have unrealistic expectations and want to achieve miracles in no time, which inevitably sets them up for failure and disappointment. Who wants to start off the New Year feeling bad about themselves? Where’s the hope, shine and positivity?
I think it makes much more sense to evaluate your life every few years – what works for you, what needs changing, what has been missing in your life? And, when you do this, to be gentle with yourself. We are often our own worst critics.
I have been thinking about all this for the last few days – reflecting on how ridiculously busy my life was over the last year and how I was starting to lose the groove in my heart.
On New Year’s Eve, I told myself that my only wish for this new year was to live life lighter. Three words that are simple, yet so difficult to achieve, especially when all the ‘adulting’ prevents your inner child from coming out to play.
So, when my sister forwarded an inspirational quote to me out of the blue this morning, it really struck a chord. The quote was a kind of wishlist of things we all need more of. Unsurprisingly, these are the simple things in life that cost little or no money but mean the world!
I decided to add a few of my own and share the list with you, illustrated by some of my favourite Instagram pics.
In 2017, we could all do with:
More sleep
More music
More tea
More books
More sunsets
More flowers
More love
More creativity
More long walks
More laughter
More hugs
More dreaming
More nature
More fun
More road trips
More colour
More chocolate
My wish for you is a happy 2017 with enough time in your life for the things that really matter. What is it that you need more of?

I would just add More Me time. Learning to be on own and enjoy my own company.
I’m absolutely loving your website. Fantastic content and very good vibes 🙂 I’m not surpreised you got a couple of awards !
Looking forward for more.
Hi Shirley. Thanks so much for the lovely feedback! A big YES for More Me time. Very important and best way for me to recharge 🙂
Haha – great list. I can’t say that I disagree with a single thing on it. Maybe not more chocolate, perhaps.

Lol! As a chocoholic I had no control over that last point… it just happened! 😀 Thanks for the visit and best wishes for 2017!
I love how you paired each with an Instagram photo. That one that goes with More Creativity is fantastic. I always need more sleep and want more chocolate. Here’s to a great 2017.

I love your outlook on the new year, and I would like all of the above as well as more kindness. That’s my focus for this year.
True! Kindness is so important, also towards ourselves… Wishing you good health, fitness and a lot of kindness for 2017 🙂
All of these, all of these…. thank you for the beautiful post. Wishing you more of all of these this year:)
